A Brief History of the Museum
The Western Antique Aeroplane and Automobile Museum was founded in 2006 by Terry Brandt, a vintage car enthusiast who had been collecting antique automobiles for several years. He decided to share his passion with the public by opening a museum that showcased his collection.
The museum started with just a few cars and aeroplanes, but over the years it has grown to become one of the largest collections of antique aeroplanes and automobiles in the world. Today, the museum has over 130 vehicles on display, including 90 aeroplanes and 40 automobiles.
The Aeroplane Collection
The WAAAM's aeroplane collection features some of the most iconic and historic aircraft from the early days of aviation. Visitors can see planes such as the 1917 Curtiss JN-4D "Jenny", the 1928 Boeing 40C, and the 1933 Waco UIC.
The museum also has a number of rare and unique planes on display, such as the 1929 Pitcairn PA-6 "Mailwing", which was used to carry mail between cities in the 1930s.
The Automobile Collection
The WAAAM's automobile collection is equally impressive, with a range of cars from the early 1900s to the 1960s. Visitors can see cars such as the 1914 Ford Model T, the 1927 Buick Master Six, and the 1947 Studebaker Commander.
The museum also has a number of unique and rare cars on display, such as the 1920 Anderson Six Convertible, which is one of only a few left in the world.
The Restoration Shop
The WAAAM also has a restoration shop on site, where visitors can see the museum's team of volunteers and staff working on restoring and maintaining the antique vehicles. The museum's goal is not just to display the vehicles, but to keep them in working order and preserve them for future generations.
Events and Activities
The WAAAM hosts a number of events and activities throughout the year, including vintage aircraft and automobile shows, fly-ins, and educational programs for children and adults.
